Annual ski insurance is cost-effective for NZ skiers who: ski both domestically (South Island) and internationally (Japan, Canada, or Europe) in the same year; travel for non-ski purposes as well as skiing (reducing the number of individual policies needed); want the convenience of continuous cover without re-purchasing for each trip. The break-even point is typically 2–3 ski trips per year — at that frequency, an annual policy is usually equal or cheaper than individual trip policies.
Checking Annual Policy Terms for Skiing
Not all annual travel insurance policies include snow sports cover. Before purchasing, confirm: whether a snow sports add-on is available for the annual policy and applies to all trips; the maximum single trip duration (must be longer than your longest planned ski trip); that the policy covers all destinations you plan to ski; and that the policy's snow sports cover level matches your skiing style (on-piste only vs off-piste vs heli-ski).
