ACC covers injury treatment at Coronet Peak and The Remarkables — but the coverage gaps are significant. Helicopter evacuation from either ski field costs $3,000–$8,000 and is not covered by ACC. Equipment theft from car parks or lost luggage travelling to Queenstown is not an ACC matter. If you've pre-paid accommodation that you can't use due to injury, ACC provides no compensation. Domestic travel insurance with snow sports cover addresses all of these.
Combining Queenstown and Wanaka Skiing
Many visitors to Queenstown also ski Wanaka's Cardrona and Treble Cone during the same trip. Ensure your domestic ski policy covers all NZ ski fields you plan to visit — not just Queenstown's. Most domestic ski policies cover NZ-wide, but confirm coverage applies to Wanaka resorts as well if you're planning a combined Queenstown/Wanaka ski holiday.
